Dr. Abdul Sharief is a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering Sciences from Visvesvarya Technological University; Belgaum, an M. Tech in Heat Power Engineering from KREC Suratkal affiliated to Mangalore University, a B.E. (Mechanical Engineering) from Malnad College of Engineering, Hassan affiliated to the University of Mysore (presently NITK Suratkal. 

He was a member of the Academic Senate at Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Belgavi, a member of the Board of Studies (Mechanical Engineering) at VTU Belagavi. Under his leadership, the K. Tech Incubation center was established at P. A. College of Engineering with the financial support of the Department of IT and BT, Govt. of Karnataka. He was a member of the Academic Council, NMAMIT, Nitte, Vidya Vardhaka Technology, and Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology as a VTU nominee.
