Department of Mathematics School of Engineering
Presidency University Bengaluru – Karnataka, India.
Presidency University strives to provide high-quality education and innovative learning approaches that equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their chosen careers and contribute to society as responsible and engaged citizens. With its emphasis on interdisciplinary learning and outcome-based education, the University prepares students to think critically, solve problems, and adapt to changing situations in the global arena.
The Presidency Group of Institutions (PGI) comprises eight schools, four colleges, and a university. While the university and colleges offer programs at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in engineering, computer science, information science, commerce and economics, arts, management, design, and media, the schools offer National and International Boards of Studies. With nearly fifty years of experience in education, from kindergarten to higher education, PGI has established itself as a leader in providing quality education.
The Department of Mathematics under the School of Engineering, has been vigorously engaged in both research and teaching. The department offers the Ph.D. program and other mathematics courses for engineering departments. At present, the department has 39 energetic and dedicated faculty members who are actively involved in research activities in areas like differential equations, real analysis, complex analysis, graph theory, fluid mechanics, differential geometry, operation research, cryptography, coding theory, and topology.
Graph theory is rapidly moving into the mainstream of mathematics, mainly because of its applications in diverse fields, which include biochemistry (genomics), electrical engineering (communications networks and coding theory), computer science (algorithms and computations), and operations research (scheduling). The powerful combinatorial methods found in graph theory have also been used to prove significant and well-known results in a variety of areas of mathematics itself.
