The School of Management (SOM) Presidency University, Bengaluru, conducted a Two-Days’ Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Applied Econometrics for Business and Finance” on February 22-23, 2019. The primary objective of this FDP was to provide orientation in essential Econometrics relevant for research in business and finance.
Forty-two participants registered for the FDP from 25 various educational institutions across the country and the participants comprised of both faculty members and research scholars.
The FDP began with the inaugural ceremony on 22nd February, 2019. Prof. Radha Padmanabhan, Vice Chancellor, Presidency University, Dr. Ishwara Bhat, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Mrinmoy Biswas, Registrar, Dr. Krishna Kumar HOD of SOM, Dr Swapna S., Dean School of Law and Dr. C. Prabhakar Reddy, Dean of School of Engineering were present in the inaugural session.
Prof. Radha Padmanabhan, Vice Chancellor, in her inaugural speech, emphasized on the importance of Econometrics tool in research studies and enrichment of knowledge. She suggested that the School of Management may conduct more such initiatives which creates awareness regarding Statistical Methods and prepares research scholars to enable scientific approach for their research studies. Dr. Krishna Kumar HOD of SoM delivered the Welcome Address on behalf of School of Management.
The FDP consisted of eight sessions and they were equally shared and delivered by the Course co-ordinators, Prof. Bipasha Maity and Prof. P. Srinivasan, School of Management (SoM). The FDP provided a platform for the participants to learn the developments in theoretical tools and empirical methods with special focus on Bivariate and Multivariate models and Time-Varying Conditional Variance models in finance and business research. The final sessions of the FDP provided hands-on instruction on empirical applications using relevant econometrics software, viz. EVIEWS.
The FDP concluded with a Valedictory Session and Certificate Distribution ceremony. Dr. Ishwara Bhat, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Krishna Kumar, HoD, and Prof. Dr. Swapan Kumar Majumdar of SoM were present in the valedictory Ceremony and awarded the Certificates of Participation to the participants during the session. The feedback from the participants were taken and they shared their experiences about the sessions. The participants were happy with the FDP and requested for more such Workshops for 3-5 days with accommodation facilities in the campus.
