Power Grid Corporation of India Debate Competition 2017

Presidency University in association with Power Grid Corporation of India conducted a Debate Competition on the 2nd of November 2017 as part of the observation of Vigilance Week.
Two rounds of auditions were carried out before finalizing a team of 14 students from all the three Schools (SOE, SOL, SOM) . The students were further divided into two teams of 7 students each, with one team speaking “For” and one team speaking “Against” the topic “ Can India become a corruption free country?”
The Chief Guest for the occasion was the General Manager (Asset Management of Power Grid Corporation of India Mr. A . P. Gangadharan and the judge representing Power Grid Corporation of India was their Deputy General Manager Mr. B. S. Rao.
Judges from Presidency University were Professor Dr. Krishna Kumar K. and Professor Gulab Salian.
Each of the participants were given three minutes of time to present arguments in favor of their stand. Three tokens representing one minute each were given to all the participants and the students had to surrender one token for every minute they spoke.
The debate was planned for one hour and drew to a close with both teams strongly holding on to their points of view. The moderator Mr. Sujit Jha set the tone in the beginning and deftly ensured the debate stayed on track with plenty of humor and ready wit.
The audience encouraged the debaters as crucial points were made by them. All in all it was an evening filled with relevant points, statistics and emphatic speakers who defended them.
