Mathematical techniques are essential part of analytical and logical reasoning of all the learnings. Therefore it is imperative for all professionals to have sound knowledge of Mathematics. Department of Mathematics was established since the inception of Presidency University, Bengaluru in 2015. Presently, 22 faculty, all are doctorate degree holders (100%). It has been delivering courses on Engineering Mathematics and other courses required by various Engineering Departments. In the process many new courses were formulated looking into the needs. The Department offers Doctor of Philosophy programs in Mathematics with the major objective of developing a center of excellence especially in Mathematical Sciences and Applications.

The department’s research interests span across the broad areas of Analysis, Differential Equations, Fluid Dynamics, Complex Analysis, Differential Geometry, Graph Theory, Fuzzy, etc.

We provide beginners with bridge courses to become acquainted with the preliminaries of mathematics and the techniques to use and train them in the rigor and precision characteristic of mathematical reasoning. We prescribe papers that help to acquire the mathematical knowledge and the reasoning skills necessary to make effective use of mathematics.

Along with teaching, our faculty members are actively engaged in research by participating in conferences/seminars/collaborative works at the national and international institutes/universities and published research papers in repute peer reviewed journals. During the academic year, 2019-20 several research proposals have been submitted to varius research agencies and it is under consideration and few research projects are alos ongoing in the department. We also serve the broader community through outreach initiatives, and by fostering public understanding of the power of mathematics and its role as a fundamental mode of human thought. The department has been organizing post graduate and research level conferences and workshops since the beginning onwards.

Department of Mathematics has a computer lab with 30 computers. Matlab and Mathematica has been installed in limited number of computers. The lab also has a LCD projector. E – Library facility is available for accessing books, journals and providing internet facilities.

To be one among the best mathematics departments in the country and to establish an international reputation as a centre for research and teaching in mathematics.

The mission of the mathematics department is to provide a supportive environment where students can learn and become experts in mathematics, through dedicated teaching and motivation. Moreover, the department will contribute to the development of students as mathematical thinkers, enabling them to pursue internationally recognized research in pure and applied mathematics, and to function as productive and responsible citizens.
