School of Law organized a Multi-Disciplinary National Conference on the theme “Role of Educators in Preventing and Responding to Child Sexual Abuse in Institutions” on Monday, November 27th, 2017 in celebration of Law Day. The inaugural and key note speaker was Shri. Sanjay Sahay, IPS, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Karnataka Lokayukta who deeply appreciated the School of Law’s initiative in taking up a sensitive issue but emphasized it should continue as a journey.
The panel discussion was chaired by Professor (Dr.) Sarasu Thomas, National Law School of India University, Bangalore. The other panelists were Shri. S.R. Somashekar, Retd. District and Sessions Judge, Smt. Rajkumari, Manager- Human Rights Education, Amnesty International India and Dr. Seetha Murty, Director Education, SilverOaks International Schools, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Vishakapatnam. It was a strong panel with a multi-disciplinary approach which brought out issues not just legalistic but gender, caste and regional perspectives.
33 papers from both faculty and students of CMR Law School, MSR Law College, Bangalore Institute of Legal Studies (BILS), Christ University and Law colleges in Indore and Kerala, were received. 22 of them besides 8 papers from Presidency University SOL students presented the papers in person. Awards of Excellence both for faculty and students were bagged by BILS.
