The Departments of ECE & EEE under IEEE student branch Presidency University organized an online LIVE webinar on “Electronic Aero engine Health Monitoring System” in collaboration with Advanced Technology Research Centre (ATRC) on 21st September 2020 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM for 5th semester students of ECE & EEE departments. This event was conducted as part of Advanced Technology Research Centre, a joint venture of Presidency University, Bangalore and Spatics Pvt Ltd. The webinar was organized live online on MS Teams. The speakers for the event were Wing Commander J. P. Raju (Retd), Indian Air Force and Mr. Nagaraj K, Managing Director, Spatics Pvt. Ltd.
Wing Commander J P Raju hails from Hassan, Karnataka at present working with Mahindra defense systems as a simulator instructor. He was a transport pilot in the Indian Air Force and served our nation for 24 years and flew five different aero planes clocking around 11000 hours. He was awarded a Vayu Sena medal for his achievements and a qualified flying instructor who has experience of flying the aero plane in Himalayas, Deserts and Oceans for over 24 years in Indian Air Force. He is trained in formation flying, paradropping, air test of post-production aero plane, bombing and low level flying. Instructional experience is over 6000 hours wherein he has thought ab inito pilots in training establishments to experienced pilots in the units.
The speaker Mr Nagaraj K received Engineering Degree equivalent from Indian Air Force and has served in Indian Air Force as Technical Air Warrior for 20 Years. He was a technical consultant on contract with QuEST Global, Technical Leader in QuEST- associated with IHI Japan AMS for GE engines and Rolls Royce Development Interface Team. He also serves as Technical Leader Representative at Rolls Royce Derby associated with Trent XWB engine development program and Pratt and Whitney associated with Aftermarket service for PW JT8D and 9D, PW 2000, 4000 series engines. He has attended seminars on PW 4000 engine held in East Hartford US and also serves as Customer Technical Representative from HAL Engine to AF Station Sulur.
The online program was graced by the presence of the Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. Radha Padmanabhan, Dean SOE Dr. A.M Surendra Kumar, Dean Research & Innovations Dr. C S Ramesh, Associate Dean Dr. Shrishail B. Anadinni, Head of the ECE & EEE Department Dr. Shilpa Mehta, and Professor & HOD of Mechanical Engineering Department Dr. Udaya Ravi M. The program was coordinated by ECE & EEE department Forum Coordinators Ms. Samreen Fiza, Ms. Aruna M, Ms. Anupama Sindgi, Ms. Srilakshmi K H, & Ms. Ramya N. It was attended by all faculty members of ECE and EEE departments and students of 5th semester.
The session started at 2:00 PM with the blessings and wishes from Dr. A.M Surendra Kumar & followed by insight into the importance of the topic by Dr. C S Ramesh and Dr. Shrishail B. Anadinni. Ms Aruna M welcomed the guest with welcome speech. Followed by this formal inauguration, the speaker Mr. J. P. Raju took over the session and introduced the audience to engine health monitoring systems for commercial aircraft. The state of practice is explored first, with the purpose of identifying the shortcomings of current systems and the research which is much needed to address these shortcomings. The speaker played a very informative presentation on modern condition monitoring-based methods which are used to reduce maintenance costs, increase aircraft safety, and reduce fuel consumption.
Mr. Nagaraj K then introduced audience to DRDO Dare to Dream Challenge 2020 which is all about DRDO Requirements on IEHMS and use of artificial intelligence based approach in the development of data driven early detection diagnostic tools at the same time identifying a most appropriate AI structure for gas turbine diagnostics, in terms of computational time for the AI training phase.
Finally Mr. J. P. Raju and Mr. Nagaraj K spoke on possible areas of research which can be looked into Electronic Aero engine Health Monitoring System. The webinar was received with great enthusiasm by students and faculty members.
After the speech, speakers encouraged students and staff to ask clarifications wherever required and students were equally enthusiastic in the questions raised and answers received. The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Srilakshmi K H (Assistant Professor ECE Dept). Some screenshots from the event are attached.
