An Orientation talk on IETE (Institution of Electronics & Telecommunications Engineers ) and its activities was organized by the Department of Electronics & Communication on 27th February 2020. The speaker was Honorable Secretary of IETE, Bangalore Chapter, Shri C. Satyanandan.

Shri. Satyanandan began his presentation by showing a very informative video on IETE and its origin. He gave brief introduction to the IETE, privileges of becoming a member – likeparticipating in IETE seminars, symposia, conventions, workshops, lectures, conferences, etc., receive

., receive IETE Newsletter free of charge, receive recognition forexcellence through IETE Awards, share ideas and experience with fellow members, avail opportunity for publishing in IETE Journals, share expertise with fellow members by delivering talks or act as faculty for Centers nearby, advertise in IETE Journals and many more. He added that IETE also supports in conducting Conferences, Conventions, Symposia, Seminars, Workshops and Apex Forums on topical & current issues in the areas of its interest. IETE focuses on all the pillars of Digital India programme propounded by the Govt. of India. IETE has initiated multi-level training programmes on Cyber/Information Security for students& young professionals. Also it is planning to conduct Digital Literacy programmes to support e-commerce and e-governance programmes of the Govt. The speaker also briefed about the publications in the field of Electronics, Telecommunications, IT and Computer Science Engineering through IETE journals.

The speaker explained the audience about how to form IETE Students Forum and also about institutional membership of IETE.A lively interactive session followed. The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by
Mr. Praveen (4th Semester ECE) .

About the speaker

Shri. Satyanandan is Honorary Secretary, Institution of Electronics & Telecommunications Engineers, Bangalore Chapter. He has served as a member of IETE Executive Committee at Bangalore as well as Trivandrum and Hyderabad for many years. IETE Bangalore is considered one of the more active Centers in the country. Shri. Satyanandan played a major role in helping the Centre get the Best Centre Award for 2018-19. He retired as Chief Engineer (South Zone), Doordarshan and AIR after nearly four decades of service. He was in charge of the operation and management of all Doordarshan and AIR establishments in the South Zone covering the four Southern States and Union Territories. He was the Superintending Engineer at DoordarshanKendra, Bangalore during 1982-91 and later in similar capacity at Thiruvananthapuram and Hyderabad. He was involved in DDK Bangalore’s development, first at the Program Production Centre and later across the full-fledged Doordarshan Kendra with a High Power Transmitter and Satellite up-linking facility. He played an important role in starting the Karnataka Regional Service in March 1990, by linking Bangalore with other transmitters in.
