Hon’ble Justice N. Santosh Hegde, Retired Judge of Supreme Court of India inaugurated the School of Law Students activities on Saturday, 24th August 2019. Speaking on the occasion, Justice Hegde appreciated the steady improvement of Legal education in India during the past 4 decades and expressed his satisfaction that Legal Studies has been attracting bright and talented students of late. Justice Hegde conveyed his best wishes to the students of School of Law on the occasion.
Justice Hegde spoke to the students at length on the need for probity in public life. He said that while he encouraged creating wealth by legitimate means, what he deplored was the tendencies in the society to misuse public property or position to build personal wealth. Justice Hegde said that lack of contentment in one’ comforts and personal life is the root cause of corruption. He gave numerous examples of how life of poor people is affected because of misuse of public funds and corruption at various levels.
Following his speech, Justice answered several questions from students on a range of topics which included scams he had handled as Lok Ayukta of Karnataka.
In the beginning, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Radha Padmanabhan welcomed the gathering. Present on the occasion were Hon’ble Chancellor, Sri Nissar Ahmed, Pro Chancellor, Prof. Vijayan Immanuel, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Ishwara Bhat. Deans and other faculty members.
