Call for universities to modernize in response to the changing educational scenario
“ Higher education is no longer a luxury, it is essential for survival. Higher education is no more elitist; it has become more accessible. However, the universities which at one time used to be incubation centers for entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity, have no become centres of preparing unemployable graduate”. This was stated by Prof. H. A. Ranganath, Chairman, IIIT, Kurnool and Former Director of NAAC and Former Vice Chancellor, Bangalore University. He was delivering the key note address on the occasion of the Faculty Orientation and Induction Program at Presidency University, Bengaluru, on Thursday, 20th June 2019. Giving his observations on how several higher education institutions have become anarchies and their lack of will to change the conservative outlook, Prof. Ranganath said that we are living in a time when the value of higher education is being questioned by students and parents alike. Referring to the affiliation function of state universities, Prof. Ranganath said that it worked well for several decades. But, now it has to be changed from a ritual redundant process to a facilitative event.
